The Focus on Kids Laboratory Guild has two goals: to increase awareness about the diverse impact of Seattle Children's Laboratory on patient families and to raise funds for innovative patient care.  Because nearly every patient at Seattle Children's is touched by the lab, the guild is in the unique position to advance the causes of other guilds as well. Our guild's fundraising efforts allowed us to contribute $40,000, in order to fund Dr. Bernhard Kayser, a scientist that was key to developing this test, and then launching it, in our Biochemical Genetics lab, in March 2020. Dr. Anna Scott, Focus on Kids Guild Member, and co-director of Seattle Children's Biochemical Genetics Laboratory hopes this test will provide a much-needed sense of closure for families affected by mitochondrial disease.
